Ing. Samuel Boakye-Appiah - Managing Director

Ing. Samuel Boakye-Appiah is the Managing Director of ECG, a position he has held since December 2017. Prior to this, he had worked in various capacities with the Engineering, Network Projects, Materials and Transport and the Office of the Managing Director where he served as a member of ECG’s team for negotiating Power Purchase Agreements and electricity tariffs with Independent Power Producers and the Public Utility Regulatory Commission (PURC). 

With his varying and growing roles and ranks, he has overseen a number of projects across the various Directorates he has worked with, notable among them is when he used computer design and interactive site construction techniques to electrify Nima/Maamobi areas which are predominantly urban physically challenged settlements within Greater Accra Region while he was attached to the Fifth Power Project. This approach enabled the Project Team to overcome challenges posed by similar settlements at Ashaiman, Kwesimintin and Aboabo in Kumasi.

He led a team of engineers to install the first Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) facilities at the primary and secondary levels for Accra, Kasoa, Bogoso and Kumasi. This facility proved to be an effective load management tool for ECG’s network operations. He has managed various Sub Transmission, Distribution and Network Automation Projects funded by Multilateral/Bilateral funding agencies involving network upgrades, re-enforcement and expansion to remove bottlenecks such as overloads, technical losses, provide redundancy and meet new demand in ECG operational areas.

A product of Bishop Hermann College in Kpandu in the Volta Region of Ghana, Ing. Boakye-Appiah completed the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in 1984 with a BSc in Electrical/Electronic Engineering. He got awarded with an EMBA from the Ghana Institute of Management and Administration in 2010. He is a Certified Project Management Professional (P.M.P) as well as a member of the Project Management Institute (PMI) and a Fellow of the Ghana Institution of Engineers (F.GH.I.E)

As the Managing Director of the Company, he has won many awards, both local and international ones in the management and distribution of electricity.
