The Western Regional Power Queens Club has donated assorted items worth about GH¢2,000.00 to the Sekondi Female Prisons. The donation formed part of the week-long celebrations to mark the 27th anniversary of the Power Queens in September last year. The theme for the celebrations was “Power Queens – Making a Difference in Turbulent Times”.
Presenting the items, the Regional President of the Power Queens Club, Queen Anita Asiedu, noted that the gesture was in line with the theme for the anniversary. She disclosed that the donation will be an annual affair. The items included; Brooms, ladies panties, soaps, sanitary pads, tooth pastes, first aid drugs, rice, sugar, maize, among others.
Receiving the items, DSP Clarisa Danquah, 2IC at the Sekondi Female Prisons thanked the Queens for their kind gesture and called on them to pay regular visits to the Facility.
The Queens later worshipped with the about 35 inmates in a brief and uplifting church service. Some members took turns to advice the inmates.
The anniversary celebrations witnessed other very exciting activities including a career talk on the topic, ‘A Career Woman and a Mother’, delivered by Ing. Jacqueline Ofori Atta, the Regional General Manager. There was also a revenue collection exercise in Tarkwa, and a thanksgiving service at the Bethel Methodist Church in Takoradi.
