Anyinam Oando Manager before court for illegal connection

Anyinam (E/R), Sept. 7, GNA - A 30 year old businessman, Kofi Asamoah, Managing Director of Anyinam branch of Oando Fuel Filling Station, has been charged with illegal power connection before the Anyinam Circuit Court.

Prosecuting Detective Inspector Alfred Marcus Kwofie said on June 19, a team of personnel from the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) Eastern Regional office led by the Revenue Protection Coordinator, Alexander Boakye, the complainant, were on their routine and went to the Oando fuel station.

The team then detected that the accused person had illegally connected electricity power to his fuel station.

The team disconnected the power and invited the accused person to the ECG regional office at Koforidua.

The accused was then asked to pay GH¢20,683.13 being the accrued bill for illegal connection for 18 months and the accused agreed to pay, however, he failed to comply with the agreement.

On August 22, this year at about 1430 hrs the team again went to the same fuel station to monitor activities and they realised that the accused person had re-connected the electricity power to the fuel station without their consent.

The team in an attempt to disconnect the power supply, resulted in the meter bursting into flames due to the illegal connection done.

The complainant then reported the case to the Anyinam Police Station and the accused was arrested.

In his caution statement the accused denied the offence and after careful investigations, the accused person was charged before the court.

The accused person failed to make appearance before the court, however, he was represented by the mother, Felicia Twumasi.

The court presided over by Her Honour Mercy Adei Kotei adjourned the case to the September 17, 2018.
