The Director of Finance Visits Eastern Regional Management Team

The Ag. Director of Finance (DoF) of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), Mr. Frank Anokwafo has paid a one day working visit to the Eastern region to strategise with the Regional Management team on how to improve on revenue mobilisation in the Region.

The DoF who is also the Oversight Director for the Region assured the Region of Management’s commitment to providing all necessary resources to enable the region meet its revenue target.
Mr. Anokwafo noted that the Company is facing some challenges but urged all to put in their best to improve on revenue collection. According to him, the Company pays huge sums of money to Independent Power Producers (IPPs) in purchasing power and so there is the dire need to collecting revenue.
He added that “the situation is worsening as the Company pays about $100 million for power purchased every week, hence it is very important to drum home the need to increase revenue collection”.
Mr. Anokwafo stressed that debt is not good for the image of the Company and therefore the Company must collect whatever it sells. He said “failure to collect revenue will affect the Company dearly”.
He encouraged the Region to institute a payment plan for high debt customers and establish a monitoring system that will ensure that such customers adhere to the plan. He also urged the region to liaise with the Legal Directorate to prosecute recalcitrant customers.
Mr. Anokwafo took the opportunity to visit the Koforidua and Tafo Districts in the Region. He urged the district Managers and supervisors to encourage other staff to change all negative attitudes that are affecting the image of the Company. He said “bad attitudes translate into revenue, and therefore there is the need to put up positive behaviours to improve on revenue collection”.
He also encouraged the districts to engage Identifiable Bodies in disconnection exercises in order to gain their support. He promised to join the districts in some of the disconnection exercises.
The General Manager of the Region, Ing. Michael Baah, expressed the Region’s appreciation to their Oversight Director for his visit, and pledged the Region’s commitment to improving revenue collection. He also expressed concern about some challenges facing the Region such as Poor ICT Network, and Staffing. The Director assured the Region of Management’s support in providing their needed resources.
Mr. Samuel Ewudzi Arthur, Manager for Accounts Examination, accompanied Mr. Anokwafo on visit to the region.
