Western Region ECG Sensitizes More Students on its Operations

The Regional office of the Electricity Company of Ghana in the Western Region has initiated an exercise to educate students from selected educational institutions in the Region on the Company’s operations.
The campaign, which forms part of the Company’s stakeholder engagements and communications strategy, targets students of Senior High Schools (SHSs), Nursing/Midwifery Training Institutions and Colleges Of Education.
The focus is to provide clarity on the Company’s role in Ghana’s power supply chain, tariffs and billing, energy conservation and other customer service issues.
The Western Regional General Manager of the ECG, Ing. Jacqueline Ofori-Atta, said this year, the Company is targeting 20 out of the 91 SHSs in the Western Region, three out of the six nursing/midwifery training colleges and all three colleges of education for its educational programme.
She disclosed that already, three SHSs, namely Archbishop Porter Girls’ Senior High School in Takoradi, Baidoo Bonsoe Senior High Technical School at Agona-Nkwanta and Shama Senior High School at Shama, has been covered. Ing. Ofori-Atta noted that the Company is committed to building mutually beneficial relationships with its various stakeholders through such engagements, as a positive step to making information available to the public.
“Educating the young generation, who are our potential customers in the various educational institutions, is a key part of our strategy to improve customer service delivery,” she noted.
The Regional Public Relations Officer, Mr. Philip Osei Bonsu, revealed that the Company would also, in the coming months, roll out an exercise to engage fisher folks in the 47 landing beaches in the six coastal districts of the Region. He noted that the educational campaign would also target other identifiable bodies such as Keep Fit Clubs, Transport Associations and Teachers’ Associations.
Last year, the Regional Office embarked on a similar exercise, with visits to selected state and private institutions including Bank of Ghana, Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT), Regional Education Office, Nagel Adventist Hospital, Ellembelle District Assembly and the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly.
