ECG invests $40 million into Volta Region Project

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has invested 40 million dollars to undertake some projects in the Volta Region.
The Managing Director of ECG, Engineer Samuel Boakye-Appiah revealed at the commissioning of a new primary station in Hohoe in the Volta Region that the projects are aimed at expanding and improving its network infrastructure in the region. He added that the projects will help the company “provide sustainable quality and stable power supply to clients”.

Ing. Boakye-Appiah said that the project will also aid in extending power to 50 communities under the China Hunan Construction Engineering Group Corporation project.
The project, the Engineer said will be at the cost of $9million.
The Hunan Construction Engineering Group Corporation project with Ghana is to facilitate the execution of the rural electrification projects in the Eastern, Volta and Northern regions.
The engineer also revealed that some measures were being taken to avoid technical losses in the system.

Laying out the plans he stated that the ECG will “work closely with the special prosecutor to prosecute culprits engaged in power theft”.
The company will undertake “technical customer education on ECG operations in various districts and revamping the revenue production unit to maximize revenue collection.” Engineer Boakye-Appiah added.

The Volta Regional Minister Dr. Archibald Letsa commended the ECG for undertaking the project. He hinted that it will boost government's one district one factory initiative when it finally takes off. Dr. Archibald however pleaded with the Chiefs to provide lands for the factory which will in turn give back to the society.
“We want lands and the support of our people, so that the industry we bring here will create jobs for our people put money in their pockets and generate more foreign income for our country”, he said.
The Paramount Chief of the Gbi traditional area, Togbe Gabusu, in return revealed that two land owners in his community will provide lands for the factory or any other institution if natives would be employed.
